“the right lube can allow for further depth and strength so your man can penetrate you with less discomfort and higher sensation #yay!”
When it comes to play time with yourself or with your partner, extra moisture is always better.
Fact: Natural wetness can alter & decrease with age, stress, the pill or other medication and sometimes, you just may not be in the mood!
They say that when women enter their 40’s they face a quick decline in natural lubrication & therefore it is assumed that all women over 40 should engage in a good lubrication routine every time they have intercourse.
There are so many amazing lubricants out there, you can make it part of your foreplay and it does not have to be a hindrance to your pleasure routine.
Incorporating lubricant to your routine can make a world of difference to your playtime. You may not think you need lubricant for vaginal dryness, but the right lube can allow for further depth and strength so your man can penetrate you with less discomfort and higher sensation #yay!
As you know, I have always been a firm believer that a few drops of lubricant on your fingers makes personal pleasure more delightful and using a toy without lubricant is forbidden in my book!
There are 3 different kinds of lubricant readily available – Water Based, Silicone & Oil. They all have their particular uses for particular areas and personal choice. There is also a reason why you should and shouldn’t use each type.
Water Based Lubericant:
The most common & readily available lubricant in Singapore, but also probably the best, in my humble opinion.
Firstly, it does not stain your sheets, it’s safe to use with sex toys and condoms, washes/wipes off easily and with a quick lick of the thumb you can reinvigorate it to go a bit longer (or use water). Water based is also the most cost effective choice #bargain! When hunting for the best water based lube, make sure it doesn’t contain glycerine (glycerine feeds yeast making it multiply), you don’t want a yeast infection or to feed the chance of a UTI. This shows that not all water based lubricants are the same. Going to the pharmacy and buying the cheapest Durex is probably the worst thing you can do. It’s sticky, foul and actually stains (yes I know what I said above)……
Personally, I love and hunt for the organic, natural choices that are available. Lubricant goes into your very delicate areas so buying a good quality lubricant is important.
Try Defense by Intimate Earth and Natural by Sliquid. My two favourites and live by my nightstand. Personally I love Defense with my toys because it is antibacterial, I just like that extra protection.
Nothing is perfect and the small downside to water based lubricant is that it can dry out quickly. You may need to reapply during a long session, but if that is the only bad thing …….
If you love shower play and a long lasting glide, then silicone is the lubricant for you! But before you jump on the computer to buy the best, there are some cons to this everlasting delight.
Firstly, you’re at greater risk of getting an infection with silicone-based lube because it isn’t water-soluble, so it’s more difficult to wash it and any lingering bacteria away, it cannot be used with silicone sex toys (it will eat the silicone away ) and it is a lot pricier than any other lubricant on the market. That being said, silicone lubricant is perfect for anal play because it lasts long, it doesn’t need reapplication or the need to work with natural fluids like a water based can.
By now you’re thinking you need one of each right? Well don’t worry Sliquid provides a hybrid option which is both silicone and water PLUS works with ALL products and materials so you don’t have to worry about anything. Silk is amazing and personally it has kicked off the other lubricants that were sitting on the night stand for sexy time.
Grapeseed, Vaseline, Coconut Oil
I’m sorry, but it is for food and hydrating my lips, not my vagina. However, I can understand why some people take this route for ethical reasons. But as I mentioned above, there are so many amazing ethical and vegan products out there, you really do not have to worry any more.
Firstly, oil stains, it stains – even through a towel on the bed, it stains, you can only use it with polyurethane condoms, it’s a NO for latex toys – needs to be washed off with soap and water. Apart from using it for other functional reasons, it isn’t my lubricant of choice. But hey if it is yours, tell me why you use it? [contact Rachel] I am curious to know!
Now with all the wetness talk, I don’t advise going overboard and squeezing it everywhere, a small amount is all you need – its kind of like that saying, “you can always add more, but you can’t take it out once it’s in”? Use this rule with Lube, too much and you make it impossible for friction and surface area!
Slip, Slope, Slide & stay tuned for other way to apply & play with lubricant soon.
